I’m taking yesterday as confirmation that Imani has officially changed her already very loose routine! It’s all gone pete tong! It’s like being back at the beginning, the unknown! 😩
She normally settles after her morning feed and falls asleep. It’s usually her longest sleep of the day and lasts anywhere from 2-4hrs. Yesterdays loose plan was, wait for her to sleep in the morning and then I’ll do a quick workout which I was very motivated to do and looking forward to. As Thursday is usually a day we stay in, no groups and no plans (usually), I thought we could have a bath together and then a PJ day on the sofa and as she’s awake and alert so much more now, lots of cuddles and play too.
I fully believe your baby knows best and to take lead from THEM. So many people offer advice which is great but it’s also important to tune into your instincts and listen to YOUR baby.
Imani just would not settle at all. When she did nod off, I put her down and before I could even whip on my gym kit that I had set out close by she awoke and she awoke with a heart wrenching cry that made me want to cry! 😩
She’s not far of 3 months old and I’m starting to wonder if she’s teething. It would be ‘early’ if you subscribe to baby milestones but every baby is different and anything is possible especially as I recently met a baby BORN with two teeth!
Is she chewing her hands more? Yes.
Is she dribbling more? Yes.
Does she need comforting more? Yes.
Disrupted sleeping pattern? Yes
Do her gums look sore? Not really sore as such but I can see a change to the bottom gum.
Is she more fretful? YES, YES, YES!!
I like to think I can work out what she wants and after a cuddle and a feed/comfort feed, she fell asleep in my arms. She flickered open her eyes a few times as if to say ‘just checking your still there’. She wants me, she needs me and I’ll be there for her. She is my number one and I’ll listen to her wants and needs, she’ll always come first, everything else can wait!
I’m not sure if she is teething or not. She’s certainly showing a lot of the symptoms and wants a lot of comfort. Or she could just be going through a change. Regardless, if comfort is what she wants, comfort is what she’ll get 😍.
Yesterday wasn’t what I had in mind but it turned into a lovely bonding day! She spent most of it cuddled up close in my arms, we still had a bath together as the warm water helped her relax and then we had skin to skin time cuddled together on the sofa. There is nothing more soothing for a baby then her mothers contact, the closeness, warmth, rhythmic heartbeat and skin to skin contact and it certainly settled Imani ❤️.
I have an ever growing to do list and house chores to do and all I did yesterday was get up to go to the toilet and google natural teething remedies/soothers whilst Imani lay all over me. Thank goodness my husband was working from home yesterday. He was on chef duties 🍳
We’ll try the natural teething remedies/soothers that look a good fit for us and as always I’ll share what worked well in due time.
I’m grateful I have the flexibility to tend to her every need when required. I’m very much someone that likes a routine but I’m learning to wing it and understand any ‘plans’ are loose ones with good intentions! I do tend to get done what I set out to do eventually, it just might not happen the day I thought I’d do it or the hour for that matter!
It’s all fun and games regardless, who would have known starring at a sleeping baby would be the most enjoyable past time! 💕
