Tuesday is swimming day. The parking available is a pub car park literally only a 3/4 minute walk away. The last few times I’ve parked and carried Imani in her car seat as well as all my bags and I don’t travel lightly! I noticed a lot of the other mums use their pushchair. I hadn’t done this previously because I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of attaching the car seat to the pushchair. Today that changed!
I parked at the pub, usual spot (creature of habit 😉) feeling motivated, got the push chair out, set it up, got the car seat adapter bits, clipped them on. So far so good! Took Imani out the car in her car seat and clipped the car seat onto the pushchair. Clipped my bags on and off we go! This is SO much easier, why have I not done this before?
Got to her swim class, I always get there half an hour early so we don’t have to rush and can squeeze in a quick feed so she’s nice and settled for the class. I parked the pushchair, took the bags off and then it dawned on me that I don’t actually know how to take the car seat OFF! The last time I did it was in the shop when the shop assistant did a demo and that was waaaaay before Imani was even born! How hard can it be??
10 mins later, Imani is still in her car seat ON the pushchair! Another mum arrives with a similar Maxi Cosi. “Help!” she tries, we press several buttons including one that allows the car seat to literally tip upside down (Sorry Imani 😬) no joy! Another mum tries to help…nope it aint budging! Now I’m flustered and time is ticking away! Feeling baffled I abandon the lot, grab my bags and take Imani out her car seat and carry her in.
We do a mad dash to get myself changed, Imani changed and fed ready for the class. NO ONE looks forward to this part!
We do the same, even more frantic mad dash with crying babies all round after the class too! As if that isn’t stressful enough I had the pushchair to tackle next!
My friend held Imani whilst I went in for round two with the pushchair. I pressed two buttons that DO NOT look like buttons and bobs your uncle the car seat released. It’s all well and good when it’s empty and you can yank it a little but with a baby in it, it is the most unpractical place to put two buttons in disguise! This isn’t crystal maze!!
I put Imani in the car seat and practised removing it whilst my friend was there in case it didn’t work. It did! Thank god! Back on she goes, we say our goodbyes and off we trot back to the car.
Bags off and into the car, hidden secret buttons pressed and the car seat is removed and I fit the car seat and Imani in the car. That’s Imani sorted! Now to collapse the rest of the pushchair. Now this I have done a million times. Car seat adaptors off. Tick. Press the series of buttons to collapse the pushchair. Nothing. Tried it again. Nothing. Am I going mad? Tried again. NOTHING! At this very moment I want to throw the bloody thing across the car park…sod it!!! 😡
I spot a mum and once again I call out “help” she presses EXACTLY the same buttons I pressed and it collapsed! Course it would!! I could complete a rubik’s cube blindfolded quicker!! 😤
I flung the pushchair in the boot, got in, turned the engine on and felt a wave of exhaustion hit me! With ZERO sleep the night before, stick a fork in me I’m well and truly done! Home we go…finally’
