WOOHOO WE DID IT, BREASTFEEDING IS IN THE BAG!
Imani turned 6 weeks old yesterday, which means I’ve done 6 weeks of exclusively breastfeeding and survived!
I remember when experienced mums would say “breastfeeding is so amazing I loved feeding mine” I thought to myself…how did they love getting a baby to latch or faffing about with nursing bras/tops, finding a comfortable spot, breastfeeding in public, leaky tender boobs, sore nipples and the constant demand? But now I get it!
It IS amazing and I do LOVE it and I feel grateful I can because it’s not easy or a given.
Just like many other mums told me it DOES get better and it really does!
Imani now knows exactly where to look and what to do so I don’t even have to think about ‘getting a good latch’.
I’ve found the nursing bras and tops that I like and Breastfeeding now works for me in any position so getting comfy isn’t an issue.
Breastfeeding in public doesn’t bother me in the slightest anymore as the Snugglebundl I use covers us both nicely without getting hot and bothered.
Tender boobs/nipples no more, and breast pads sort out any leaks, although Imani has fine tuned me so that when her milk is ‘good to go’ she wakes up ready for it!
And as for feeding on demand, that’s still ongoing however breastfeeding is enjoyable now so any time, any place and I’m ready!
Breastfeeding is just simply amazing, I love feeding her and I love the bond that comes with it.
For any new mummies considering breastfeeding or that have just started that may be struggling and finding it challenging, firstly don’t beat yourself up if you decide it’s not for you but just from my own experience, IT DOES get better and a hell of a lot easier and it is SO worth it!
Keep going and stay strong
